Farewell from our Headteacher and Future School Plans
As I am sure you are all aware this is my last half term as Headteacher of Hodge Hill College. I have been reflecting on the journey the college has made during the last eight years as it has risen gloriously as a phoenix from the ashes.
I took over a school which was in rapid decline in terms of behavior, academic outcomes and school facilities. It is therefore with pride that I reflect on what this Big School Team has achieved over the years. 2019 saw the best ever results for the school and placed us in the top 300 state secondary schools for value added achievement for pupils. Our pupils all now take a full set of GCSE qualifications which provide them with a firm basis to move into training, apprenticeships or A Level courses.
Behaviour throughout the school on a daily basis is good all day every day and this has contributed to the significant improvement in academic outcomes. Average point scores for qualifications in 2019 were well above national averages.
As you will all have noticed our buildings and facilities have undergone a phenomenal transformation from the external landscape into every corridor and classroom. We have transformed the pupil experience to ensure that the learning environment supports pupil learning and personal development.
Whilst I move into semi-retirement, I am sure the college will continue to move forward. We have this term engaged the services of our architect to develop two exciting schemes. The first scheme is to develop plans for our much needed Sports Hall and the second scheme is for a Sixth Form block which would allow the pupils of Hodge Hill to have access to post-16 education in their locality. Together they represent an exciting vision for Hodge Hill College, its staff, pupils and the wider community. I do hope you will all support these developments and convince the City Council to support them by accessing central government funding to finance the building of the schemes.
I leave you with our motto: Dream, Believe, Achieve.
All good wishes,
Mrs Ann Andersen
